Early in the school year at the primary grades, a lot of time is spent teaching procedures and routines. In my first grade classroom, I play this game with my students on the first day. It uses an analogy of a mixed-up crazy E.R. doctor (Dr. M.U.C) to help children understand that one size does NOT fit all in the primary classroom. Students are shown that teachers make decisions to best help their students be the best learners they can be. Therefore, the activities or work they are engaged in may look very different from what their classmates are doing. Since it is the beginning of the school year and for most children, it is their first exposure to a Smart Board ever, they are gradually introduced to some of the interactive features that make the Smart Board unique. For many students, this is a "magical" introduction to the Smart Board and it promises to be one they'll want to visit many times.
